A sculptural chandelier suspended between lightness and presence, Allumette is the vibrant heart of the room. Designed by Francesca Lanzavecchia for Foscarini, it reinterprets the traditional chandelier with arms, stripping it of symmetry and formal rigidity. The result is an ethereal yet structural composition that turns light into a physical, emotional presence. Its name, French for “matchstick”, evokes a subtle flame, delicately released into space.

Conceived as a dynamic choreography, Allumette brings together contrasts in perfect tension: rigid geometry and soft textile cables, transparent methacrylate and solid metal, gravity and suspension. From its central core, arms of varying lengths radiate asymmetrically, each culminating in a glowing PMMA element that captures and diffuses light with magical subtlety. The LED light, invisible as it travels through transparent tubes, comes alive at the tips—like small floating flames suspended in air.

More than a decorative object, Allumette reveals its structure and technology with intentional clarity. Lanzavecchia drew inspiration from iconic chandeliers like Gino Sarfatti’s 2097—not just for their form, but for the way they openly displayed their mechanisms. In Allumette, however, the focus shifts from pure rationality to a poetic reinterpretation of function: light pipes guide illumination upward and outward, while the cables—shaped by gravity rather than constraint—add fluidity and warmth. Each viewing angle offers a new balance, a shifting geometry that resists finality.

Available in two sizes—M with 11 lights and L with 19—Allumette also includes a single-arm wall version. Offered in three colorways, its design speaks to both the avant-garde and the familiar. With its interplay of materiality and immateriality, fullness and void, Allumette is not simply a lamp: it’s a story in motion, a sculptural center of gravity around which life unfolds.
